SKLD staffer supplying the joy for over 20 years

Lynn Lindsey first started in the skilled nursing industry back in 1999 and has been at Bloomfield Hills ever since. Lynn says, “I always had a passion to take care of people and be there for those who don’t have family close by.”

Lynn started as a CNA and then was fortunate to experience many aspects of skilled nursing. Lynn says, “I went from being a CNA to the front desk as a receptionist. Then I transferred to a scheduler, and they soon added central supply to that role.”

In the last two decades, Lynn has seen SKLD Bloomfield Hills transform. “It’s been incredible watching the transformation of the Bloomfield Hills building. It’s such a beautiful space, and the residents and staff appreciate that every day,” Lynn shares.

Now Lynn works solely in central supply. She says, “It can be very busy, and the job is very dynamic. I’m responsible for keeping up with who has a tube feeding and to make sure I order the right amount. I have to be on top of everything to make sure the residents have their needs met.”

There are many moving pieces that Lynn seamlessly keeps track of. She says, “Being very organized is definitely required in central supply. It’s all worth it because I love the residents.”

The position also takes a great deal of strength, physically and emotionally. Lynn says, “It might surprise someone how much stuff I have to lift. It can definitely be a good workout.”

Sharing and connecting

Not only does Lynn provide so much for the residents, but she also loves connecting with them on a personal level. Lynn says, “Travel stories are so enjoyable to share with residents. They always know I’m going somewhere exciting and ask me to tell them all about what I’ll be doing there. Then when I return they want to see pictures and hear all about it.”

Throughout her time at SKLD Bloomfield Hills, there have been several residents Lynn has become especially close to. Lynn shares, “One of my close residents wasn’t having a good day. The staff know I am close with him and talk to him every day. When he was in the middle of an episode, they called me up to help. I took him away from the situation and talked with him.  We’ve been even closer ever since. He still calls for me often and it warms my heart every time.”

Lynn continues, “It also warms my heart when the families know who I am and feel close to me. The families and residents know I am there for them whenever they need me.”

Throughout her many years at SKLD, Lynn also appreciates connecting with the her fellow staff. She shares, “I love the staff functions. It’s so nice to be able to connect with the amazing people that I work with.”

When Lynn isn’t at work, she loves to travel. Lynn says, “I want to travel the world and see places like Hawaii, Africa and China. My motto is to live life to its fullest, and I want to experience these places and share all about it with my residents.”
